Sustainability is a big focus for voco® Winchester Hotel & Spa.

Situated opposite the entrance of the hotel, the EV car charging point can charge the vehicle type 1 & type 2 and can charge 2 cars at a time. Most vehicles sold in the Uk fall under these car types.

Electric car owners are likely to plan their journey to enable them to charge their vehicle when necessary and voco® Winchester Hotel & Spa is proud to be able to provide this complimentary service.

• We encourage guests to recycle towels, reduce water usage and make use of the recycling bins we have provided.
• We take part in the Carbon Smart programme, we currently hold a Gold certificate.

Here at voco® Winchester Hotel & Spa, we understand that our guests want a sustainable hotel that’s why we are part of Green Engage. Green engage, which is an IHG company policy scheme, allows us to measure the impact of the day to day running of the hotel on the environment. From this, we are provided with recommended actions to ensure that we are doing everything we can to reduce our impact on the environment. For more information on Green Engage click here.

Initiatives the hotel has completed so far:

• Installation of an electric car charge point in our car park.
• Installation of a Monscierge screen which enables guests to email information, such as maps, to their phone without printing them.
• Use of LED lighting, dimmer switches and timers.
• Removal of staff waste paper bins to encourage more recycling.
• Bedroom air conditioning controlled by a master panel to be activated only when a guest is occupying a room.
• The hotel has monthly meetings and a staff notice board both dedicated to green thinking.
  Staff send PDF documents instead of brochures to save paper.
• Adopting large-format bathroom amenities reduces plastic waste
• Filtered water in meeting areas and guest rooms water in glass bottles means 300+ plastic bottles foregone in every guest room each year
• Using biodegradable take-away coffee cups reduces are impact on the environment when they are correctly composted.
• The filling our indulgent bedding is made from 100% recycled materials
• Aerated shower heads can help reduce water consumption compared to a standard shower head
• Our bathroom amenities use plant-based ingredients whose sourcing does not negatively impact their ecosystem 

Green Key Accreditation

voco Winchester Hotel & Spa are proud to be working towards being awarded Green Key accreditation in 2025.

Green Key is an international eco-label for tourism facilities. Since 1994, Green Key has been a leading standard of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. The Green Key programme is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education. In England it is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Green Key provides a well-proven framework for an establishment to work with its environmental management on sustainability issues, including awareness raising. The high environmental standards expected of these establishments are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent on-site audits.

For guests, a Green Key shows that the establishment is committed to reducing the environmental impact of their stay. The Green Key programme is aligned with the UNSDGS – Sustainable Development Goals 2015-2030 addressed by the United Nations.
